Ohh thanks, the passport isn't really an issue as none of us have one yet.

My son is 13 in Oct, contact with his Dad is sparse to say the least, I have no idea if he has parental responsibility tbh but he wants us all to have the same name as both his little sisters have their dad's name and I will take it on when we marry.

    What about wills etc

There is alot of information about whether a father has parental responsibility. It depends on whether he was married to you at time of the childs birth, and if not then the year the child was born and whether the father is named on the birth certificate.

As to wills - it is always a good idea to have your will amended following a big event, such as marriage, divorce, the birth of a child. etc etc. particularly if it is an old will where a previous partner is named whom you would no longer wish to benefit from it or you wish to name your new husband in it.

Thanks Sammy - that link has helped a lot, my son was born in 1998 so the Dad doesn't have parental responsibility as we were never married.

Should be relatively easy. I shall just work my way through and get everything changed. Thanks for your help

My partner and I got married last year, she has changed her surname on almost everything apart from the passport as she already had a new one and having to spend another £80 is a bit steep.

Just need to remember to put her old name for holidays. Did forgot when we went to Paris the other day, fortunately going by ferry is fine as customs/immigration check passport and the ferry company check the names, so no problem, phew!!!
