Wedding invite dilemma

Hi Guys,

I have a dilemma, Ive been invited to a wedding it stated to me and family. Any I RSVP'D myself and my partner. I do have children however I would not take them anyway. I have now been told that my partner is only invited to the church and the evening reception NOT the sit down meal. However I am invited to the meal.
Now I feel like declining the whole invite as I m expected to sit and eat a meal almost alone as it were.
I figured I have several options:
1.Make contact and decline the invitation
2. Attend the wedding as they have asked and my partner go home after the church and then come back ( I should perhaps mention that we dont live particuarly close to the venue so it would be a bit of a drive)

I understand that it is their wedding and they can choose who comes and who doesn't however if this was the case why was I not told when I RSVP'D rather than days before the wedding.
What shall I do?

Also what is an acceptable amount to put in as they have requested cash as oppossed to gifts, initially I was thinking about £50??

Go to it all; it's a wedding, people will be friendly at the sit down meal. I am certain that your DH will be able to find something to do until you can meet up with him, esp if he has the car.

With our wedding (we'd said no gifts as people were travelling), we still got between £20 and £50 cash/vouchers. Mostly £20.
:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.

50 pounds is a lot.........if you are going to be at the meal alone then 20-25 seems more then enough.........

Its a difficult one. How long have you been with your partner? If only a short time then i understand why they may have left him off the main meal, but if he is long term then maybe its a mistake? In any event i would make contact and explain the situation. In your position i probably wouldnt attend without my OH but i would speak to the happy couple before declining the invitation entirely.

We usually give £50 as a couple for a wedding gift if cash has been requested.

That's a bit of an odd thing for the Bride & Groom to do - to alter the invite after you've RSVPd.

I'd get back intouch with them & explain that you were under the impression that the invite was the same for you & OH. Did you question this when they told you he couldn't have the meal?
I know it's tough juggling nubers & budgets, but I would have been horrified if I had contacted a guest that had already RSVPd to say one of them couldn't join the wedding breakfast!

As for the suggested donation, well this would vary depending on whether one or both of you were eating IMO, but it's kinda up to you how much you give. Depends how much you would have spent on a gift instead, what your budget is, how close you are etc.
