Advice re guaranteed debt requested

Options
This is actually a for a friend who has a terminally ill husband. Several years ago (she is not sure how many) he guaranteed a contract for his daughters phone, Recently they received a letter from a debt collecting agency for an outstanding debt. This is the dirst they have heard about it. She rang the company who redused to talk to her explaining that her husband was unable to talk to them and why. They told her to write to them but as she said how is this any better as her husband id so ill he would not understand what she was asking him to sign.

Sorry to be so lomg winded but the point is what should she do now?

Speak to the daughter and get to the bottom of it through her.

I agree with your answer if only it was possible. For whatever reason his daughter has refused to talk to them or any other member of the family for the last couple of years. She does not reply to phone calls, messages etc and visiting her is simply not possible for many and varied reasons. It has been dumped squarely in their laps and they are at a loss as to what to do and how they are going to pay it being on benefits.
