How dare you run up £1,000's worth of debt then complain about having to pay it back

Don't you just love these sorts of phone calls. Makes you want to scream. We are doing everything possible legally to get out of debt and they want more.
Why do they hang up when you explain things to them.

  • They hang up because they won't reach their target
  • Just remind yourself how well you're doing with your repayments! - have read your signature! You're doing really well!

If you have a talent, use it in every which way possible. Don't hoard it. Don't dole it out like a miser. Spend it lavishly like a millionaire intent on going broke.

Gah! You really get the brunt of these phone calls dont you.

If I were in your shoes, I would smile sweetly ( it comes accross in your voice) " would you prefer it if I offered token payments of £1 a month instead"

Chances are they will say no.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast
  • I think I just let them get to me. It was all going so well, don't want to start again with the calls.

Playing devil's advocate I can see their side of the coin.

It's not about doing everything legally to get out of debt, its about paying back your debts. If you can't genuinely afford to pay it back there are steps in place. If you are trying to use the law to weasal out of commitments then why shouldn't the lender get the hump?
  • student loans are the best, refuse repayment plans want the full amount that you dont have and are nasty to boot - makes you laugh really!

If the phone calls upset you you can ask that they only correspond in writing.

I have found I have become very thick skinned to these type of calls - if I had it I would pay it - I havent so they only get what I can afford - take it or leave it - I think there are people out there that deliberatley try and avoid paying their debts - it is those people that make the lenders behave the way they do - and who can blame them?
