Hi people :j
Sorry if this is on the wrong board, please feel free to move it if it is.
I just thought some of you may be interested to know about this if you are considering having laser eye surgery. I'm booked in to have it done on 2nd September and can't wait.
I have been wondering if I had to inform the DVLA and have my driving license updated so I thought I'd email my advisor at the laser clinic (easier than trying to call the DVLA) who told me it wasn't necssary to inform the DVLA after the procedure.
I wasn't totally convinced so I called the DVLA and was informed that I must inform the DVLA as I have the code 01 (relating to wearing glasses for driving) on my license. I need to get a D1 form from the post office and send it off to the DVLA with both parts of my license and a covering letter and they will upate. Failure to do so would be driving not in accordance with my license and is an offence.
I tried googling for answers to this but didn't seem to get me anywhere, all I could find was people contradicting each other and information relating to other countries so I thought I would post this here just incase anyone is considering laser eye surgery.
Hope this helps anyone. If not then don't worry and just ignore me!

Cosmo,
How did the treatment go?
I am considering having it done. Did you have both eyes done, did you drive home yourself? Who did you have did it done with?

Hi John
Treatment was fantastic, am really pleased with the results.
Had it done at Ultralase in Guildford, they're not the cheapest but I know a few people who had good results from there and I didn't think that laser eye surgery is the sort of thing where you just go for the cheapest offer - it's your eyes at the end of the day.
Yes I had both eyes done at once, on the day they re checked the measurements from my consultation, confirmed what procedure I was having and went through the aftercare with me. If you go for it I would definatley reccomend having someone sit with you though all the aftercare talk as it's a lot to take in. Then they put anastheic drops in your eyes and take you through to the laser room, then do the procedure, only in there for 15mins.
Could see straight after but was a bit misty. You are not allowed to drive yourself home and can't drive until they say so (usually the following day after your check up). To be honest there was no way I could have driven even if I wanted to. About 20mins after the surgery the anasthetic started to wear off and it felt like i had chopped a million onions, eyes streaming, wearing sunglasses and had jumper over my head in the car and couldn't keep my eyes open. That lasted a couple of hours.
Recovery was hard at times but would deffo reccomend it to anyone.
If you want anymore info just let me know and I'll be happy to oblige!:starmod:Cosmopolitan:starmod:0 -

Why? Laser eye surgery doesn't stop the degeneration of the eyes it merely corrects the problem at that point.
Your eyes carry on changing so will need to be revisited on a regular basis if you want your eyesight to be good all the time. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

i have had eye surgery for astigmitistion- both eyes at the same time. my close vsion has improved but i cant see long distances(it is corrected if i wear my old glasses) BUT i cant see close things with the same glasses(which i used to be able to do!!)--i apparently need rreading glasses and driving glasses so i am worst off than before!(but i dont need glasses for normal life).
İ am 48 and i was told when i turned 40 by an optician that my vision would change in my forties as my 'lenses' stiffened up which made me hold off until 48mfw'11 No68- 55k mortgage İO--little to nothing saved! i must do better.0
