Legal Land of Leather?

Hi All,
I have been a reader of this site and the forums for a while now and thought I would join up to give a little back.
I have a bit of a legal question for you here. I bought a sofa from Land of Leather (LoL) at the weekend which is all fine and I have saved the money to pay for it etc.
However, I was curious because I asked the chap if I get home and I change my mind I cannot cancel the order at all. Now I thought we had consumer rights that give us a 14 day cooling off period. I checked the contract and sure enough it says unless LoL are in breach of the order somehow I cannot cancel the order.
Is this legal? Can they state this?
Thanks in advance,
Mat

Hello and welcome to the site.

How long did they say you're sofa was going to take to be delivered? Is it from stock or does it have to be made to order. I know when we bought ours we had 10 weeks to wait as they only get them made once they have the order in, a lot of time they don't carry the stock in the store.0 -
It sounds like you went into the shop and signed a legal contract with the supplier. You have no legal right to cancel unless the goods are not as stated. Changing your mind is not an option in this instance"The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts."

I thought the 14 day cooling off period was for 'Distance Selling' only. ie Mail Order, Phone, Fax, Internet etc.0

Is it not the same with Argos and mobile phones which are excluded from there 16 money back guarantee.
As long as are you told this before you pay for the purchase am sure there is not much you can do, unless of course the product is damaged in any way.Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

You're right. If you walk into the shop and enter into a contract, there is no cooling off period.Says James, in my opinion, there's nothing in this world

Ahh, righto, thanks for that.
I have to wait 12-14 weeks, booo...Sometimes you get what you deserve... :cool2:0 -
Distance selling act is for internet sales or phone sales as the customer doesnt get a chnace to view the product hence the cooling off period, its actually 7 working days not 7 days as confirmed on working lunch last week.
In this case the person doesnt have any rights other than the sale of goods act.charles_w wrote:I thought the 14 day cooling off period was for 'Distance Selling' only. ie Mail Order, Phone, Fax, Internet etc.0 -
Some exceptions apply depending on the nature of the contract. Signing up for some services are different, e.g. extended warranties, financial products/services will have a cooling off period!magyar wrote:You're right. The Working lunch site is on here. You can watch on normal tv as well as online for the past 30 shows, with some extra bits not shown on normal tv. :TPoppycat wrote:...confirmed on working lunch last week0
