The store doesn't give them the 80cents, but they can buy meat (for example) and the 80cents will come off that...I think!
That's right, they call it an 'overage' so by the time all of your coupons have scanned you might be say $5 in credit, but the store won't give you the cash so instead you can pick up other items to use up that $5 'credit' so that your final bill comes out at zero or you pay a small amount.
It just doesn't work that way in the UK, I can't imagine being able to get all that much money off your shopping bill to be honest, but then food is cheaper here than in the US.0 -
I always feel guilty for using coupons, but I think supermarkets are getting use to more and more people using them. I save them up until we do a shop and I will only use them on products that we do use!Now I am employed, lets get rid of this student debt!0

Ha! I thought that was a one-off programme when I saw it a few weeks ago, will look out for it again, thank you.
The one I saw, there was one couponer who had NINE trolleys of shopping and paid something like $2 for the lot. I did think their stock piles were over the top though - one lady had more *stock* than we carry in our shop! Whole rooms decked out with shelving to hold it all, I had to wonder if they actually use any of it.0 -

I would think they do, just that the stockpile will continually grow as they can get 9 trolleys full at a time, they cannot eat all of what they buy and they have to shop monthly/weekly as then they get the best deals. Quite nice if only we could do the same0 -
My daughter keeps telling me to watch this, she's addicted! Our supermarkets won't take them unless you buy the product.I Believe in saving money!!!:T
A Bargain is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
Love this programme, have them saved on my sky planner and watch them all the time (my husband thinks I'm sad!). Have managed a few good shops recently using coupons, £81 down to £47 last week at T's and £31 down to £9 at S's today.
Getting more confident when using them, but find that the friendlier you are to the SA's the easier the transaction.MFW - currently at £23,610 (Aug 2014) MFD 20200 -
I have just started getting into this since participating in this site, couponing is addictive!
Even though I can only do it in small amounts here I saved £30 last week in T's with coupons and BOGOFS and now have enough BOLD 2-in-1 til next March!( working on the average wash)
I saw the first series and the one with the woman who has misjudged and ended up paying about $24 for about four trollies, she honestly looked like she was going to burst into tears!
I'm very tempted to try wombling(looking for unused clubcard reciepts) see I'm getting the jargon already!
Looked up my clubcard today and found £13 in unused vouchers from last year,I was chuffed!
I also second being friendly to SA's it works wonders....I also let them know I have coupons before I start putting stuff through.:)0
