in Cutting tax
My last employer used a week1/month1 code for my P45. My last payment was a large payment for PILON and I've paid too much tax.
I'm now a company director running my own payroll and was hoping to invoke a refund from HMRC. however, my accountant says I cant because my last employer used a week1/month1 code on my P45.
Any ideas?

I had this with an employee last week.
Ring HMRC taxes helpline with all your figures to hand. Explain your problem and they should be able to correct it and send a notice to you as the employer with the correct code on it, which once you change on your payrol system will generate any refund due.
Taxes Helpline 0845 300 0627
Opening hours 8.00 am to 8.00 pm, Monday to Friday & 8.00 am to 4.00 pm Saturday.
Make sure you have your NI number and the figures from both the P45 and your latest payslip including which week / month it was for. Once you have given them the details ask if they can calculate how much tax you will get back.
After I called them I had an electronic notice the very next day and the employee gets her refund with this months payrol.
Hope that helps and that you are as lucky.

Do they actually send you the money for the refund? Or is it refund out of companies payroll if you see what I mean?0 -
