Hello everyone, as anyone ever had a test/interview for the NHS? Preferably in a hospital admin setting?

I have a test and a interview next week so i was wondering what the tests consist of? It's a word based/typing test and that needs to be passed to enable the next stage of the interview.

Also if anyone could shed any light on the kind of questions they'll ask in the interview? I understand each will be different depending on the role but with a little prep for a few of the questions which they may ask i think i'll be that little more confident.

Any replies will be greatly appreciated.

when i did mine, the typing test was typing a clinic letter, and some "triaging" of paperwork- basically prioritising what was more urgent out of a load of stuff

To give yourself a headstart in that, try and find out some of the relevant terminology for specialty that you are applying for- ie urology, ENT, cardiology etc. This will be a big help to you

Question wise, rather strangely they asked me what the last film i saw and book i read was! The questions will be pretty straightforward, basic ones about why you want to work for them, what you can bring to their department etc.

Make sure you do your research first. They will have shortlisted you from potentially over 100 applicants, so you need to prove that they were right to, and to make yourself stand out above the rest

    Good luck :-)

I've had several tests with the NHS. They've all been different but very easy. The straight typing one was simply copying an already typed letter. They gave me 20 minutes to do it and it took less than 5 which shows how short it was.

As far as the interview goes, the ones I've had have tended to ask questions based on the job specification. So I look at that and think of answers to obvious questions. So if it says must have experiece of customer service, I learn the points of good customer service and practise talking round it.. and so on.

Just to expand on this - the talking about it is about how you can demonstrate not only that you know "the points" but also can demonstrate your ability from your experience.

I did one once, it was an Excel test -putting data into a form and highlighting it before printing it out. I had no idea how to do the formulas though, so I used a calculator to add up the columns before I printed it out....

Didn't get that job, but I did get the one I'd gone for earlier in the day at the same hospital. That one was a written test.
