  • If you go to the theatre a lot (or intend to in the future) why don't you get a "Friends of Glasgow Theatres" card.

I bought one of these last year and saved the price of the card on one show alone! There are other advantages, such as priority booking and discounts at certain restaurants. There are no booking fees either for each ticket, and postage is free.

The Friends discounted tickets are usually just for certain nights, but this doesn't bother me.

I have just looked the brochure and the discount for Swan Lake is £5.00 off top three prices on Monday 5 and Thurs 8 February which would drop prices to £21 (stalls/grand circle), £19 (rear stalls) and £15 (upper circle).

Not much help regards Swan Lake at the Kings I'm afraid but on the wider theatre in Glasgow question I really recommend the Citizens. Shows are generally much cheaper anyway and although they might not have the glitz/glamour sets and costumes as teh Kings I've found the perfromances to be much better. Citizens has every Tuesday night show for £6 - regardless of the seat, and also does preview nights for as little as £3 but these can only be bought in person on the day.

You'll also find many productions in other theatres do great offers for the first night - Futurology at the SECC as part of the National Theatre of Scotland is £5 instead of £15, and Aalst at the Tramway is £6 instead of £12.

If you have, or know someone with a G5 post code you can get tickets for most performances at the citz for £3.00. you have to apply for a Gorbals card. I have taken my friends to quite a few performances, and had a really good night on these occasions. Yo can get 4 tickets for £3.00 when it,s the home team or I think, 2 for outside groups. Never seen a bad one yet. These cards are free
