If it your own job and not a different one(similar) they probably can/will just asume you are going to carry on as normal.

You will find out when you try to accept a different post and ven though they want you thye won't lt you go fom he cuurent post.

If pendng interviews and other posts one approach is to just stay quiet unless asked or there is a deadline to accept on any offers

    Am I missing something?

He has his own substantive job, that is in the bank. All that is happening is that he is applying for other jobs hoping to get a better position. The fact that this is all happening in a redundancy scenario is irrelevant to him, he is just applying for attractive internal vacancies and if he gets one it is just part of the natural churn of staff from month to month.

If he gets a job offer - he can ask for time to think for as long as feels comfortable asking for, meanwhile he can hope that an even better job comes along. Worst case he can accept a job but then reject it again because a better one has come along.

Comes a time though very soon in that process though where he needs to focus his attention on what he really wants, otherwise the employer is going to get !!!!!! off with his messing them about.

i didnt say the redundancy was relevant, someone asked if turning down the job could have an impact and i said no

he doesnt want to mess his employer around, he knows that the job he prefers will come out in a few weeks, he also has 4 interviews this week so obviously has preferences of his own out of that

As it turns out, it's not part of a redundancy scenario. :) But it was me who raised it because in my experience, it could be relevant.

If it's an org change and redundancies are a part of it, then turning down a job as part of preferencing for roles (to wait for one which may or may not be advertised and he may or may not get) could mean he forfeits the right to redundancy. That's why I raised it; but as it turns out, it's not applicable anyway! :)

' <-- See that? It's called an apostrophe. It does not mean "hey, look out, here comes an S".
