I wanna fix my laptop!

After my parents buying a new laptop around a year or so ago because their old one broke, it is sat in the cupboard collecting dust. This would be good for my college work etc, But i was wondering where i could get it fixed and around how much it would cost. It has a dogy wire i think because when its connected up, if u knock the wire just a little bit it turns off.

Any help?

Thankyou, Natalie x

    Which wire?

Do you mean the electrical mains one for when you run it off of the mains?

Does it work OK just off of the battery?

May be better to ask in the Techie forum ...

  • Maybe the power supply is loose. Do you know anyone in college who is a computer techie and would like to earn a few quid?

It might be the same problem as mine, the socket inside the laptop has come loose and either needs replacement or re-soldering back on (if I am reading right)

Apparently its an easy job if you are compitent with a soldering iron, I dont trust myself, and my local market bloke wants £90 even though I supply the fitting (cost about £2 from maplin"

Well i dont think it works on its own unless its plugged into the mains so im really not sure. I dont think its a huge problem because if you keep the wire REALLY still it works a charm, nothing wrong with the majority of the computer lol.

    Thankyou x

PC world dont fix them as its not a PC, mine is just a bloke on the market. Mine isnt done yet coz I cant afford it.

If you know an electrition or maybe someone a bit techie, they might do it for the price of a few beers.

  • It could be the lead itself? Get someone to lend you their lead and see if it solves the problem. If you see someone on a pc course in their second year-they will know what they are doing or may at least diagnose the fault in 5 mins for you. I say this, as my son does pc servicing at college and is qualified as a technician now, but is studying further. The way you put it though I'm beginning to think its the actual power lead has a break in it. When it is charged up, it should work without the lead-unless the battery is knackd. Borrow a lead is the quickest remedy! Chat up the techies at college! However-if your parent have a new laptop-try that lead.
