my venue doesn't like pretty shoes!

so last night I read the small print in our venue contract - we have fallen in love with it so there's no changing it - and because it has an oak dance floor it stipulates no stiletto heels.

cue a tiny panic and visions of wedges as far as the eye could see  then I remembered seeing these plastic heel covers. has anyone tried anything like these? http://tszuji.co.uk/clean-heels-heel-stoppers-protector/ I'm hoping to source some (probably looking at 20 pairs, can't see that many of my older relatives wearing stilettos) then check with the venue if they will allow this before buying them. If so I would have them in a basket at the entrance of our venue so people could help themselves. Oh and of course I would mention it on the invite too.

Is this just wishful thinking?

The advice I can from experience offer is, even if you mention it on your invites, not everyone will notice or do as told!

hmm never heard of a venue saying that!- and a bit strange they didnt mention it to you!!

    my suggestions:
what about providing flip flops - many of us (including me!) have done this-- provide a basket and the ladies will put them on

I havent used the heel protectors- but i know someone that has and they have said they are good

hmm really not sure about the invite thing- would people notice it?

how many people going to your wedding?- how long is it away?
and what time is your wedding and the disco?- just thinking if its an early one then guests may appreatiate (sp?) taking their shoes off to dance as they have been in them all day- but if the wedding is later then they may feel ok?

I thought the heel protectors were more for walking on grass so that your heels didn't sink and get ruined and muddy?

I hope you find a solution.

Are they even going to know if you have stiletto's on,are they really going to say please can i see whats on your feet before you enter the dance floor, sounds totally ridiculous but heel stops could be a solution

The merchant adventurers hall in York has this rule. They class stiletto as any tip smaller than a 5p which I'd think most people wouldn't be as small as that if going to be in them all day? They have the stopper things for £3.50 a pair so should be able to get them cheaper than your link. If I was a guest I'd be happy to wear slightly thicker heels incase of damaging the floor, incase there were costs for repair for the couple. If people whinge show them how stylish the stoppers would be on their shoes!

One idea - I've seen on this forum where brides have bought some cheap flip flops for ladies to wear for when your feet start to ache when dancing - maybe you could get some just for dancing!!!:):)

So much for oak flooring and its benefits!

Stilettos are not a new idea and tbh I think this "clause" is ridiculous. I do hope you find a way to overcome this and whilst owners will have a field day screaming about costs etc.....how did we cope with stilettos and flooring in the past...the costs do end up on the customers "plate" at the end of the day....there appears to be a need for a site to "advertise" such venues...if any exist please let me know.

Its fairly common in older venues. The heel stoppers idea is really good, you could do a basket of heelpstoppers and flip flops.

Its actually quite rare to have a stilleto heel on shoes I think. I have ten pair of heels and not one are less than a 5p coin so I think most heeled shoes have a slightly larger heel. You must get exact confirmation of the heel width limit from the venue though.

I had a venue which got really cold at night and we were barn dancing so I set up a wedding website for all the extra info like this so it didnt clutter up the invites, but then we didnt need to do meal choices or anything. Dont forget the gossip chain as well, mums and bridesmaid will be very useful in making sure the info trickles down to all the ladies who wear heels!

    Hi,

There was this rule at the village hall that my friend had her wedding in a couple of years ago. When they got the keys for the hall a few days before the floor was checked by the owner & them & they it was re-checked when they handed the keys back. If there had been any damage they would have been given a bill.

Thanks for all the replies. I'll be mentioning it on the invites, the website if I get one going, through my sister (my mum doesn't wear heels so the message would just get lost), my cousins, facebook..... and then a collection of heel stoppers at the venue.

I better find some 5p coins and start measuring my heels :T
