I am trying to deal with a debt collection agency pestering me, and following another thread, I have asked for a copy of the information they hold on me.
Today, I have received a letter telling me they want £10 for this information, does anyone know if this is legal, or if there is another way around it?
Many thanks in advance
David

I have been hassled by a debt collection company and I don't think I have liability for the debt and have requested them to send me a copy of the information they hold on me in relation to this debt
Today they have written to me stating that I need to pay £10 for this information.
Does anyone know if this is correct or is there a way around this and it seem a lot to pay when I am trying to sort out my debts
Thanks in advance

A subject access request under the data protection act does cost £10 and allows you to see everything they have about this debt.
But if you are disputing its your debt you just need to send the prove it letter and wait for them to prove its your debt - template in a sec.....

what Tixy said. If you want to see everything you make a subject access request and they can charge a maximum of £10 and are allowed 40 calendar days to comply. If you simply want a piece of information it would be far less hassle for them to provide that information than to go through the extra work involved with a SAR0
