PREVIOUSLY POSTED IN MORTGAGE THREAD BUT NOT GOT ANY RESPONSES - can anyone help me!!

Hi all,

I am new to the site and have a bit of a problem. Not sure where I should post this so please point me in the right direction if I have got this wrong!

I am hoping to buy a new house so looking at money etc. I have been a bit rubbish lately and finished a 0% deal on my credit card a while ago but not transferred it. I am looking to transfer to another 0% but not been successful in the 2 applications I have done and I believe this is due to the financial associations with my husband! He has a bad credit history and although is working hard to pay things off, this will be a long way off. I checked my own report of Experian and its excellent! I cant see any other reason, it would decline me.

So we can close our joint account but I am not really disassociated from him as we are married so could I still send this to the credit agencies? I really dont want this to affect my mortgage application. May have to wait to put the house on the market, which we have an appt to do on Tuesday.

Ahh - my head is spinning.:money:

Any thoughts or guidance much appreciated!

    Hi and welcome

If you can close all joint accounts with your husband (and don't have a joint mortgage currently), then you are can file a notice of disassociation with the credit reference agencies, you have to tick to say you keep your finances separate.

As an aside - whilst experian say your credit report/history is excellent its only one of the factors that a potential new lender will take into account. Whilst it sounds like its probably your association with husband causing the problem you might also want to think about the other factors a new lender would take into account.
eg - your debt to income ratio
your debt to available credit ratio
whether you are on the electoral roll
whether you only pay minimum payments of your current cards
if you have an overdraft whether you use it every month/are constantly in it etc.
how many recent credit applications you have made

Remeber to file the notice of disassociation with all 3 CRAs
A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who give
or "It costs nowt to be nice"
