RBS Interview Success - Just pre-employment screening :(

RBS Interview Success - Just pre-employment screening :(

I have been conditionally accepted employment as an RBS customer service officer after passing the face to face interview- just awaiting the pre-employment screening - I sent off all my details and 2 years working history etc - my references all check up, all Im concerned about is the credit check - I don't have any CCJ's, IVA's or Bankruptcy - but I went on Equifax and it says my credit rating is poor - I always pay my bills but just had a couple of missed payments last year plus I got a mortgage with Santander 3 months ago. Just wondering what type of checks are carried out and how long it takes them to do the screening checks. As I really want this job but keep stressing as I have got so far.

  • The score doesnt matter at all as its over simplistic and not worth a penny. Lenders (and employers) have their own scoring systems and dont use the one that Equifax/ Experian charge you for.

They are interested in the things you've mentioned - IVAs, CCJs, Bankruptycy, Late Payment, Defaults, Over Limit etc rather than what your limit to borrowing ratios are or number of recent loan applications.

Whilst I did work for RBS after they introduced the screening I was never told exactly what the criteria were. Defaults and above were automatic nos. I believe a small amount of over limit/ late payments were acceptable but the exact rules I cant say.

Just to let anyone know who may look at this thread in future, I passed the RBS screening! My credit rating was judged to be poor on Equifax and I missed a few payments on a mobile phone bill last year. My advice - if you have no CCJ's or IVA's. DO NOT WORRY!!

Hope it helps put anyones mind at rest who may read this in the future as I was stressing so much!!!

    Hi Maggsy,

Can I ask where did you apply for this position at RBS and do you know if there still recruiting?

I've got banking experience working for Santander at 10 month as a cashier but want to move up into something more challenging.
