Hey,

After 4 years of being tied into a house with an Ex-Boyfriend. The house sale finally goes through next week.

I have a whole house of furniture that i need to get rid of as i moved back to my parents I can't pay for storage and would like to get rid of it all it includes beds and bedroon suite. sofa, washing machine fridge freezer. It's all in good condition and i was wondering if anyone knows of any companies in Kent (Rochester) that would buy everything as a job lot. I only want about £250.

Thanks

  • My Mum passed away at the end of last year, leaving a house and contents.

We arranged for the British Heart Foundation to come and collect the entire contents, which they did free of charge. It felt good to know that at least the charity were benefiting from the goods rather than some shady second hand furniture dealer.

Having seen what they charge for things in the local store, they must have made at least £2k from what they took from Mum's house, which I think is good, and a great way of making a contribution to a good cause.

A lot of those clearance companies will give you next to nothing for your stuff and one or two do actually charge.

If you have time, have you tried putting it on Gumtree? Electrics always sell and what you cant sell you could give to charity.

Speaking as one of those companies , we do have to make a living by selling the items on, plus we have removed them for free 99% of the time unless the punter has asked us to remove what is mainly rubbish then it has to be charged for as a registered business you cant dump for free.
As mentioned if people want to do their bit for a charity call them, but they will not take poor quality goods anymore, in fact they have become rather picky. An example was the other week a lady rang me and said she had an old 3 piece suite and broken table and could i take them away i said yes and qouted £95 as she was under 5 miles away , she said i want you do it for free? i said why ? she said because you can have them for free???? some mad people about.:rotfl:

Try Freecycle, you would be amazed at what people will want or take,
you set the time and day and arrange for them to collect, all it will take on your part is listing the items on your area, and being there on the day for the people to collect....

Also try local ads in your shops, you will soon having people there to collect for free.....

Also not sure what area, you are from but as long as the stuff is in decent nick any charity will collect for free.....

Sell the electrical stuff if you can

    Good Luck

My brother run his own house clearance business, sometimes people dont realise how expensive tipping costs are for a business, tipping license costs too.

OP you could try gumtree, or list as a job lot on ebay, ive seen that done before.
If you do go for a clearance company ask if the are registered with the enviromental agency and ask to see their waste carriers card when they pick the stuff up. You could end up in trouble if your items end up fly tipped if they can trace them back to you.
