Self Employed hiring a family member question

I am a sole trader (copywriter/social media manager) and I am looking into hiring my partner. Would it be better to take him on as a freelancer so he pays tax etc, employing him and doing the paye, N.I stuff myself or bringing him in as a partner(wouldn't be able to put his wages as a business expense then I am guessing).
We are not turning over a lot but I will need to take him on as our clients grow.
Any advice would be welcomed.
