Being outside the UK

Options
Hi there,

I have a query that I have been unable to find a solution too.

I work for a UK company, paid by a UK company into a UK bank, but I work overseas and I have done so for the dates below.

Mallorca - April 2008 - November 2008
Lanzarote - November 2008 - April 2009
Portugal - April 2009 - October 2009
Lanzarote - January 2010 - May 2010
Rhodes - May 2010 - October 2010
Egypt - Jan 2010 - November 2011

I have paid tax and national insurance throughout this time, but can I claim this tax back?

Every avenue I look down I hit a brick wall, please can someone shed some light on this situation.

I was told that if you are out the UK 183 days of a year over a 4 year period then you become tax exempt.

Things are very vague so any advise would be much appreciated.

Under current rules you have not been in full time employment abroad because none of your employments were in a settled place.

You remain fully taxable in the UK but will of course claim credit for Spanish, Portugese, Greek & Egyptian tax as doubtless you have filing obligations in each country.
