Can you keep virgin account open when changing mortgage?

Can you pay off your Virgin one mortgage but keep the account open as your curent accoutn or will we have to change that as well.??
we are seeing the A&L tomorrow to talk about a 5y fixed rate. when i asked on the phone about paying more off they said that can only be done in january up to 10%. which is fine. he then said about opening a current account with them which pays 12% but you have to close in 12 months which is when the money can go to the mortgage?
do you think that sounds fair
