for two people and two cats we spend £40-£60 a week. Higher weeks if we have to buy cat litter or toilet roll or other bulk buy items that last 1-2 months. Lower weeks when there is plenty of meat left in the freezer. This also includes buying bread/ham/crisps/fruit for making lunchboxes.

I spend £50.00 a week on food and essentials...1 adult and 2 children...try to buy healthy so a lot of that is fruit which can be very expensive.

Oh thanks. I've just checked out the website and on average a meal is about £3.50. So for 7 dinners for 2 people that's £49. Then they'd have to buy in lunches, breakfasts, any snacks plus drinks. Unless they are spending huge amounts at the moment then I can't see that's a cheap way of doing it. DH and I eat really well on about £50 a week.

Agreed. We have a weekly shopping budget of £45 for 2 adults and a 3 year old that's with us 3 days a fortnight currently.

This gets us food for all snacks, breakfasts, lunches and dinners for 7 days, along with any cleaning products/toiletries needed and the occasional pack of pull-ups for said toddler.

Definitely cheaper to cook yourself than rely on ready-made meals, and if done correctly will be healthier too.
  • Hi,

My otherhalf and i put £50 each into a purse at the start of the month and live on this for the month. So far we have actually had money left over most months. The money left over gets put into a money box. We started doing this in January and i counted the money in the box a fews days ago... £118!!
