It's very much an individual thing. I've chosen not to work full-time any more because I have a chronic disorder that makes me so tired. I didn't realise how tired I felt until I gave up my full-time job. And now I just refuse to go back to that. So part-time work with less money and partially live off savings for me. Better than having a full bank account and working myself to an early death.

I would agree with other members that it comes to what you are after, or to paraphrase that when you are most happy. You want more money on your bank account or you can go by with less and have more free time for your hobbies, chores etc etc.

You need to make a list with pros and cons.Put things in perspective.

I would also add since you are still young you can in the future work full time, as to find what you are really after in life !!

Not so young and still waiting to hear, maybe they are trying to psyche me out into going full time but more likely are just as disorganised as my current employer. I don't think there is really an option to change once I accept full time, I have to sort it out now or never.

Whats the overtime policy, compulsory? paid or unpaid?
  • Go for the 80%. Work and money comes and goes and there is no price high enough for health/sanity! It sounds like a wonderful arrangement! Congrats on finding such a great balance in your life.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I handed in my notice today to take up 80% of full time with my new employer, scary but hopefully the best compromise! I'll just have to up my money saving efforts to compensate.

Good luck with your new arrangement. And you are well equipped with Moneysavingexpert to compensate for financial difference:j
