Dont Laugh..... just realised... WTH?

So last night, I was going through a few things with DS, about his impending GCSE results, yes im still panicing and so I think is he now.

We were looking through the letter that his school sent out, and it said,

Thursday 25th August GCSE results available from 9am
Teachers will be available throughout the day for advice and we will also have a careers advisor on hand to guide your childs decisions.

Good Luck etc etc...

Timetable for new school year....

:eek:Friday 26th August school starts for year 13 (half day only)

If he gets the results, DS will be in year 13.... if not we have to try different schools...

I am a tad bewildered at the children being given 24 hours to make a decision on their next step in education....
Im really peeved off that uniform stockists only open to 6pm on results day....
What am I suppossed to do?? Buy 2/3 blazers... just incase?

THURSDAY IS GOING TO BE HECTIC!!!!!

In England & Wales, after GCSE results you would normally progress to year 12.

Yes but in England you don't start education until aged 5 whereas over here you are aged 4 (unless a summer baby in which case age 5!). We have, as pointed out, 7 years of primary education, 5 years of secondary education then an optional 2 further years of higher education in years 13 & 14 or more commonly Lower & Upper Sixth.

I have to admit that's not a lot of time from results out to school starting. Imagine how many kids with hangovers there'll be in Lower Sixth that day ;) Just kidding but it is ridiculous that if you need to change schools, how on earth are you meant to get that organised and gets uniforms purchased etc.

On a slightly more positive note - only a week to go before the country returns to normal with schools going back :T

THURSDAY IS GOING TO BE HECTIC!!!!!

Hi mumoffour - I hope Thursday went ok, but I just had to reply to TOTALLY AGREE with you - what a STUPID system we have here!!! My twin niece and nephew were in the same position this year, but niece had to wait to get her results on the Thursday to see if she could go on to do A's at a different school - the one she wanted to go to also started back for yr 13 on the friday - and when she went to talk to the Head on the Thursday he was taken ill and she was told she would get a phonecall on Friday morning (once the rest of the yr13s had already started!!)!!!!!

In the end they went to 3 different schools on the Thursday and she couldn't get to do the A's she wanted and after sending a frantic faxed application on Friday afternoon to Loughry (had to be in by 4pm!!), got accepted for a course there!!!

WHY OH WHY do the results come out so late and result in SO much needless stress!!! Even if the results came out at the beginning of the week it would be better!!
