im lookig for a plasma/lcd tv, preferably 42 inch or something near enough. Ive been into Dixons and have noticed some tv's are so much more clearer than others.....like samsung, it is so clear. I would like something with very clear resolution. Can anyone suggest any good tvs and where to get them cheap from too plzzz?

Best thing to do is wander around as many shops as possible to see what takes your fancy and compare specs on the web....

We were in Comet today looking for the same as you. The Samsung are the best in terms of picture definition. However, in terms of technology we have opted for the Sharp 42' LCD 10AT LC42XDIE. Its available in Comet for £1500 but we came home and did an internet search and within two key strokes we discovered the exact same TV for £1100! Quite a saving! Its worth doing your research in the stores and then sourcing it on the internet when you get home. Hope this helps.0

First and foremost: in high street multiples like Dixons, or supermarkets like Tesco, take absolutely no notice of the picture quality.
Most of the time the TVs are simply plugged in straight out of the box, with no changes made to contrast or brightness. Plus they're fed by a single source split over anything up to 50 tellys.
I've seen HD TVs showing the BBC HD demo but fed by an RF cable, I've seen incorrect aspect ratios, even black and white screens.
Have a trawl through the Home Entertainment sub-forum over on Digital Spy, there's usually some good advice there.
Remember that sometimes the cheapo "unbranded" TVs you occasionally get in supermarkets actually use the same components as some of the better known brands
Always check the returns policy - there's no substitute for seeing the set working in your own room. Try it with the lights out and the curtains shut, but also try it in the brightest sunlight the season will allow. Some screens look fantastic in the shop but dismal the second the sun comes out!
