Changing shifts at tesco

Right I went for the interview at tesco and they said what hours could I do. I basically said i'm going back to uni in october so I won't know for sure what hours I can do till i get my timetable (so i just put any evening down) + weekend.
The problem is, some days I might not be able to get from uni to work on time (5.30pm) when the shift starts... so i can't really tell them what evenings I can do yet!
She is ringing me next week with the hours, has anyone got any advice? Im worried that she will say I won't be able to change days when I start back at uni...I could just lie and say any evening but when I get my timetable I might be screwed.
anyone got any ideas what to do? Thanks

Is the tesco where you uni is or are you going to uni close to home. Well id make it clear or make sure she is aware that your going to uni in october so you cant say for certain what hours you could do but tell her that as soon as you get your timetable you will let her know. Id say tell her you could whatever hours they offer you. The ball is then in her court to decide what to do. Not sure what else you can tell her.0

I'm currently a student and it's really difficult to change your shifts at tesco, I had to ask people for shift swaps because they couldn't cater for my evenings (even though I've worked there for 4 years!)
You should just be really honest with her, there's no point in them hiring you then you having to quit because it's your responsibility to be at work at the hours in your contract and that's the stance they'll take0 -
I think the only thing you can really do is accept the hours that you're offered, stress that your availability may change when return to Uni and work the shifts the best you can until you know for sure. I can't imagine a student being too much of an issue for them, they're probably used to this sort of thing happening.Thank you competition posters!

I started my job for another one of the large supermarkets in July 09, I told them at the interview that I was thinking of going back to college but it wasn't definite. They gave me a 4.30pm start time, which was fine until I returned to college in the September, as my college timetable had some days where I wouldn't be finishing until 5pm. I told my manager I needed them changed, and she said it was no problem at all but it would take 2 weeks to get them changed properly, she just told me to write down what hours I could and couldn't do. She changed them to start at 6pm which was fine. I was worried because I was still in my 3 month probationary period when I needed to change shifts, and I was worried in case they thought I was messing them around, but they were fine about it. I guess they're used to dealing with students regularly.0
