Cheap Accommodation in Singapore

Hi all,
Unfortunately, it seems in Singapore accommodation is rather expensive. We are looking for 1 room with 2 twin beds conveniently
located for tourists. Hope that someone has an insider tip for me for a relatively cheap hotel/hostel.
The cheaper the better
many thanks!

Trouble is just across the causeway means a getting on and off buses
carrying all bags to go through Singapore and Malaysian Immigration and customs every time you want to pop back to the hotel - the queues can be very long it's a total pain in the a*se and it will fill up pages of your passport.
If you're deaf you could try the Madras (can be a bit noisy!)0 -
Also look at what your airline is doing. I flew with Singapore Airlines and they had a great package for hotel transfers tourist bus and tours whilst there. They go from 1 to 5 but I chose the most expensive options Stayed at the Carltoun Ritz but it was way less expensive than any other options they had. They do lower category hotels so worth looking at.
Some years ago did Qantas stopover and again good value for money.

I stayed in the Value Hotel thompson which was about £45 for a double room, small but modern and clean, also had a pool. About 5 min walk to the metro and only couple of stops to everything.0

This budget chain has several hotels:

We stayed in on in the Geylang area, very cheap and a metro (about 300m away) ride from the city centre and sights.
It also included breakfast, which consisted of a pot noodle!
