Cooking Pulses in a Thermos flask

Yesterday I wanted some chickpeas for tea. I had put them to soak the night before and in the morning I put them in a suacepan to boil. I boiled them for 10 minutes and thought "I really can't be bother to cook these for 2 hours":rolleyes:
So instead I tipped the chick peas into a thermos flask and poured in fresh boiling water and left them till tea time. I fully expected them to be raw or crunchy but instead they were perfectly cooked.
I know in Red Kidney beans there is a toxin with the catchy name of Phytohaemagglutnin which means that they should not be cooked with this method, as it would not distroy the toxin. However I think it would be suitable for other pulses as long as they had the 10 minutes vigorous boil.

What a great idea ViksB, I suppose it's the same idea as a slow cooker. I think any beans are ok so long as you give them at least 10 mins boil. Will def try that out.A friend is someone who overlooks your broken fence and admires the flowers in your garden.0

Please don't do it with red kidney beans. Any other sort of bean will be fine. It really is important to cook them really well. However my chickpeans were yummy and tonight I am going to try some balck eyed beans.

But look at this Cooking Time Chart for Dried Beans
and consider if it might not be a good idea to get one of the stainless steel pressure cookers that Aldis Lidls and Nettos have for around the £20 mark.
Miss Vickie has lots of good advice on Beans & pressure cooking.
