Frustration over no contact with Reception Venue. UPDATED

]Hi Brides to be; just looking for a bit of perspective please.

We've booked our wedding for January 2013 and provisionally booked our reception venue for the Friday and Saturday. (its a hotel and we're all staying over as well as having the wedding breakfast there on the Saturday)

I emailed the venue last Sunday just asking them to confirm the booking and requesting details of how much of a deposit they require.

I've had no reply, not even an acknowledgement. I appreciate that the wedding is some time off but am uneasy about the lack of reply.

Bearing in mind that we're talking about the best part of £3k here and we're apparantly in the grips of a recession I would expect them to be a bit more proactive!

I'm so not a bridezilla and if they replied I would be happy to then leave it until a month or so before the wedding before finalising the details.

We live about 2 hrs drive away so just popping in isn't an option.

Would alarm bells start ringing for you guys????

I would be exactly the same and tbh i think its very unprofessional of them to not even acknowledge your email. I would ring them and ask to speak to someone senior if you dont your likely to get a 'someone will ring you back'.

Once you speak to a senior person i think its perfectly reasonable of you to ask them to confirm your booking by both email and post, like you say it 3k of your money

Thanks for that; so I'm not being too demanding then!

It is a popular venue which is why I'm so keen so get something concrete in place so that I can relax until January 2013. Unfortunately I've kind of set my heart on it too despite scouring the net trying to find somewhere else that wants my hard earned cash!

I'll try and give them a bell on Monday and hurry them along.

I'd expect an answer withing 48 hours or I wouldn't be impressed.

Maybe give them a call and make sure they received your email??

P.S. Hope you don't think I'm being picky, but a wedding breakfast isn't literally a 'breakfast'.

A wedding breakfast is the meal after a couple have got married, ie, the first meal you eat together as husband and wife (or wife and wife/husband and husband etc), so the food straight after the ceremony xx

I know you're not being picky and I shoudl have perhaps been a bit clearer. The wedding party are staying at the hotel for the Friday and Saturday with the wedding being on the Saturday. They wanted a deposit to secure the dining room for the wedding breakfast on the Saturday after the ceremony. Does that make a bit more sense or have I just further confused the issue (it wouldn't be the first time!)

    Ahhh, I'm with you now!

I thought the wedding was on the Friday sorry! :o

We had similar problems with our venue when we booked. Quick enough to see us and take the deposit, but soooo slow in getting back to us with info and paperwork.

Remember though (which is easy for me to say now I've done it), that this isn't too important to them, whereas we want to know everything yesterday.

I would give them a call though, just to give them a kick up the backside x

My bolding; this is why Im prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt at the mo; they do this every weekend so it's just another job for them.

There are only about 17 in the entire wedding party so once it's booked and paid for that's my organising done and dusted!

I'll bell them next week and will report back.

    Thanks to those that replied

As has been said - give them a call when you get a chance.

It's quite possible for perfectly valid emails to be marked as spam.

Check your junk folder too in case they have replied and it's ended up in there.

    Keep us updated!

It may be they've got staff off on annual leave or away sick- there could be a perfectly simple explanation for them taking a while to respond. It is probably best to give them a call sometime as has been said, just in case they didn't receive the email. It would be useful to have read receipts for this kind of thing- I need to figure out how to do it myself as it would be helpful to know it had been received and read! Good luck with your plans :)
