Hi
Normally post in the DFW but thought you may be able to help! Live on a horribly strict buget , clearing my debts ..very slowly
Im a student nurse and sainsburys have sent me a £20 voucher because I purchased some meat on my last shop full price and it was out of date.
My voucher arrived today :jand I want to enjoy a lovely meal with my husband that is not bought because its reduced.. !! I would like to have a luxury ( well as much as I can with £20! ) meal and invite my sister and husband who have helped me loads...
Any meal ideas... £20 buget and sainsburys shop are the criteria
Thanks everyone!

Food ideas are making me hungry:drool: but I'd have to have a bottle of wine in there too:o
Have a lovely time whatever you decide.0 -
Everyone's idea of a luxury is different. I would do pudding first - any pud at all is a luxury in my book. Strawberries would be good, perhaps mixed with crumbled meringue, the small meringue cases are quite cheap, and cream. Or go and look at the frozen deserts, some of them are yummy. Then decide on the main course. Sometimes you can get salmon on special offer which would be nice with salad and new potatoes, or if you want to make life easy on yourself how about a ready-cooked chicken with salad. Whatever you decide, make sure that you enjoy it. As well as a lovely meal you will be buying some precious memories.I believe that friends are quiet angels

I would do a fishy starter...perhaps mackerel pate.....cheap to make and tastes divine. Or mussels, they are yummy too.
Then a nice steak with homemade chip and a homemade peppercorn sauce with a big portabello mushroom and rocket salad.
Pudding.....I am not a pudding person but for luxury you can't go far wrong with something chocolate or strawberry based. How about a chocolate brownie with raspberry coulis......or some kind of cheesecake! All washed down with a nice bottle of wine/:cool:"More people would learn from their mistakes if they weren't so busy denying them." - Harold J. Smith:cool:0 -
I would do a turkey mince lasagne with a couple bottles wine and a bag of salad and some garlic bread.
I prefer turkey mince as its low in fat, and costs £2 for 500g (make sure you get the thigh mince though as breast mince is more expensive) which is a heck of alot cheaper than lamb or steak mince.
or i would do spaghetti and home made meatballs made with lamb mince and some seasoning to give it a bit of a kick again with wine, salad and garlic bread
for pudding it would have to be cart dor ice cream as they have it half price at the moment for £1.74 a litre tub.
i would go with the following
first cape wine (most varietys but not all) is on 3 bottles for £10 and its a very drinkable wine i find
garlic bread for £1 on the be good to yourself range (freezer) if you buy it in the fresh isle would cost you £1.45
ice cream at £1.74
then thats £6 to spend on salad and either lasagne or meatball ingrediants. if i served my hubby either of those meals he would be over the moon.0 -
A nice, bloody steak, home made potato wedges, and salad, coupled with a nice bottle of wine. Followed by sticky toffee pudding. Yummy!2011 Wins : Models own makeup product, Photoplusx4 software:j Mens hair dye :rotfl:0

for me i'll go for pasta with meatballs, mash potato, broccoli soup and some pudding to finish off. simple but filling and sweet meal :-)
I love pasta & meatballs and mash, but I wouldn't have them together.
But then I have very strict ideas about what does go with what - so ignore me:rotfl:
OP I would have a look around, see if their steak or salmon or nice joints are on offer (I don't think they have a meal deal on - I looked but can't see one). They often do pretty scrummy chilled puddings on offer to - their chocolate fudge cakeserved warm with icecream:j

Our treat night is normally garlic mushrooms on top of a slice of thick fresh crusty bread or brie wedges with salad and cranberry sauce for starters.
Then nearly always a nice steak with chunky chips, mushrooms, onion rings, peas and peppercorn sauce for mains
And either a melting choc pud with cream or profiteroles
Enjoy whatever you decidex
