Photographer Quote - what do you think?

Hi
I have been looking at photographers and decided to contact the one my OH uncle had a few weeks ago as he seeme really nice and he managed to get a lovely photo of my daughter at the wedding :)

He said he can do the full day and upto an hour after the first dance for £600.
The package includes :
Unlimited photos taken
A 6x4 print of every photo taken on the day
A disc containing all images and copyright free.
2 extra discs for our mums
50 extra copies of a pic of our choice to use for thank you cards
A calender with a family pic of our choice.

Do you think that this is value for money? I think its pretty good but i wanted to check with you guys cause £600 :eek:is a fortune to me and im trying to justify spending it. I will be making savings wherever possible on other things

Thanks
Lollie

I think thats a good price.

We paid £900 for full day, from getting ready to around 10pm. Included a pre-wedding shoot and all photos from it, all images from the day with full copyright to do what we like with the pics afterwards, a large canvas print and an album of upto 30 pages (around 60 images), but we've since paid extra to upgrade to a Graphistudio album at cost price above the original package as i prefer storybook to traditional style album. So in total its about £1050.

I would go and meet the photographer. Have a look at an example of one of his weddings and make sure you see the full days pictures. Not just a few of his selected good shots. All photographers are capable of achieving a couple of great photos, but you need to know that he can get great photos all day long.

Sounds good to me too - my tog wanted £600 just for the CD (but all edited - are yours?)

The extras are nice - but you could try to knock some cash off if you don't want them? You could do it all yourself for about £35 - £50 if you don't shop around/buy in bulk. You could plead innocence and ask for £100 off if you just get the CD with copyright. (It will also save him a lot of time, and delivery charges, so £100 off is a decent offer)

You could do the calendar yourself for about £10
the extra discs you could just copy yourself for the price of the CD (or just put them onto another computer for free)
the photos for thank you card - only £5 even if you pay 10p per print (with a bulk order you could half this, sign up to different sites for free prints)
every print of pictures taken - he might take 1000, there might only be 200 you actually want in an album, again value around £20

If he doesn't edit them, then it might be better to print them yourself anyway - you can download software from Kodak for free. This allows you to crop, get rid of red eye (though there shouldn't be any with his camera), but what I would really use is to put some into black and white or sepia (everyone looks flawless in black and white!). I'd also want a variety of sizes to put in the album, rather than just standard 6x4.

Shoes £79/£100: Cowboy boots, canvas pumps, re-heal boots/ £25 safari shoes

Lollie you did not say where you are - but if you live in or the Wedding is in Glasgow Scotland try Sheila Galvan Photography. This young lady is very good ( just Google her websites to see her work) and I am sure you will like her personal style. She targets her pricing below what the average market rates, is never short of work, uses the very best printer to finish her work and takes charge the artistic layout. She works to what the customer calls for for after all, its your day. This lady is really going places so even if you do not use her - do have a look at her work to give you ideas, for what you want for the perfect wedding. Wishing you the best in your search and hope it all goes well.

Hank69 - Thanks for the recommendation, but im in newcastle upon tyne, so she is a little too far for me.
  • Sounds very cheap to me....ours is not far off double that for the full day.

However..some of those extras (such as the calender) would not cost much for you to produce yourself
