Emigrating to South Africa

Hi Guys.
Having a look on the boards and I can't find a forum for emigrating!! Anyways I was wondering if anyone knew the deal with having debts when you emigrate. How do you go about paying it back?
The BF and I are thinking of joining his best friend in South Africa but I have a bit of debt still. I think by the time we go new year/spring 2012 I will only have my loan left to pay - around £3000. Should I keep my british bank account open and just pay it off by popping money in it in South Africa oooor should I do something else?
We are selling all our stuff (obviously) to pay for our new life but I don't know if I will make enough to pay off everything.
If anyone could point me in the right direction that would be lovely!! xxx
