I loathe and detest Facebook and similar networking sites. I do hope that MSE is not going to get further involved with this rubbish.

Well this is the way the world is going whether you like it or not. Actually, there are some positive things about social network sites.

Mine came this morning, very happy because it was a proper miniature in a glass bottle, the sort that usually cost £3-5 in a shop. It smells pretty good too, I doubt I'd buy a full size but I'd certainly put another miniature on my Christmas list, my husband got me one of the standard Burberry perfume last year. I flit about with perfumes so miniatures are a good idea for me, still haven't found one that I love so much I'm prepared to pay £20-30+ for a full-size bottle. I was expecting one of those small vials at best, postcard at worst (they shouldn't do that as I've never bought a perfume from one quick wipe with a teeny towelette), so it was a very nice surprise.

Definitely, I follow quite a few companies on Facebook and regularly get early access to freebies plus competitions, the key is to set up an account with very little personal information - mine has no telephone number and no address and my email is a Hotmail address which I use for all this sort of stuff.

Its also great for gaming and making new friends all over the world, so long as the user is fully aware that privacy is non-existent on Facebook in reality then its a great newish avenue for freebies and comps. The internet itself isn't big on privacy anyway, my policy is don't put anything out there (except on secure sites and connections) that you would mind the whole world knowing about.

How can you fault MSE or its users for sharing freebies that may be found on a social networking site? It's no different from having to sign up to newsletters, websites or indeed a forum as you are on now (also a form of social networking) and its increasing popularity has made it inevitably the advertising tool of the future for businesses.

If you don't want to participate that's fine, you'll be the one missing out on said freebies, but that is a choice you make.

Instead of complaining about it with no reason given whatsoever perhaps explain your dislike for social networking, or Facebook in this case. Who knows, the nformation people here might be able to provide can make you realise it's not such a bad place after all. For freebies that is, you're under no obligation to participate in the other parts of the site such as connecting with friends or sharing pictures. Set up an alias and no one will bother you while you can still take advantage of the offers on FB.

If you're still not interested that is fine. But don't complain in a thread where someone was kind enough so share an offer.

OP: Thanks for sharing. I was pleasantly surprised when I received the sample in the mail yesterday and it was a proper miniature, very cute.

I received mine earlier in the week and was very pleased to find a proper 4.5ml miniature bottle. I was expecting a vial. Brilliant :D I showed DD now she's ordered one as well, so my thanks to OP from DD also :D
