Broken little toe - shoe help

I posted on here a while ago about a wedding outfit (going to a wedding - outfit). I was happy with the result, apart from being the biggest girl there :p

Now in a moneysaving fashion I have a wedding this weekend and the same outfit is coming out. Except that just this morning I have presumably broken my little toe.

I can bear a little pain to get those gorgeous shoes on again, but toe so swollen I couldn't even get them on. Aarrghh!

What am I going to do? Barefoot? Flipflops (I wore these today in this weather, nice)? I tried on all sorts of shoes but anything touching toe is bad. Help!

I was going to say it may hurt to wear flipflop type shoes (ie fitflops) as with every step you sorta need to grip your toes to pull up your foot but if you've managed it fine then I'd say go with it. Not sure what the weather is doing this weekend though, am starting to think thats if for the warmer drier weather...

If its painful with anything touching your little toe then by default flipflops are just about your only option. Hopefully with the bride wearing something she wants to stand up to cameras on, she'll also be avoiding the rain so with any luck it may be less wet then it has been today!

Barefoot could be another option but personally I'd be way too worried no one would hear me coming and accidentally step on my toes.....

If you did want a new pair of shoes I think a few stores have the tail-end of their sale on which could get you some decent prices but shop fast as most sales do seem to be ending!

I'm off to the podiatrist this afternoon with a broken toe among other things sigh.....

Flip flops, Birkenstocks, as jenniewb mentioned, hurt because of gripping as you walk and I was terrified of someone knocking it.

Ice packs and Ibuprofen gel might help with the swelling

My mum said I could get away wearing flip flops but she suggests I wrap my leg up in bandage all the way to the knee, so I look like a proper invalid :rotfl:

I find I only grip if the shoes don't fit well. I saw this lady wearing fit-flops and her toes were grabbing on for dear life. Looked painful.

I'm about to dip toe into arnica and get swelling down, maybe its not broken, just bruised. At least the purple goes with my pink nail varnish.

  • I'm back from the podiatrist. Apparently it'll take 6-8 weeks to feel normal. Ice and Ibuprofen gel or tablets will help the swelling go down but that's not going to get you into those lovely shoes I'm afraid.

I'd go the whole hog, plaster cast and crutches it may not look as good but you're guaranteed a seat :)

How about a pair of flat gladiator sandals if you can find some that don't touch your little toe?

You could also try some cotton wool around the toe, and then strap it to the next one with some cohesive tape, that might give your toe enough cushioing for you to be able to wear some sandals that you've already got.

I'd go for fancy flip flops - I have some leather ones that are covered in little beads - very pretty and it will keep your toe from being squished into shoes that will only leave you in agony.

I'm sure people will notice your dodgy toe if they notice you're wearing less than conventional footwear.
