Advice needed about check

Hello All!
Recently I won a court case and was awarded about 4000. Should receive a check from insurance company any time soon. I have accounts with Lloyds. But own 1000 on Halifax current account and 7000 for Halifax loan. I do repay them slowly. My worry is how to clear the check. I have a feeling if I bring the check to Lloyds bank - I might not see the money: they will keep it for debts. Can they do it? Is it likely? By the way, the money I am expecting is to clear other debts. What is my solution people? What do I do? Thank you in advance!

If you open an account with a bank you don't owe any money to then there is no way they will try to keep your money.
If you have an overdraft and loan that you are struggling to repay (I'm not sure if you are or not) or are struggling to make the minimum payments on then it would be advisable to move to a new current account anyway. This will protect you from offsetting.
If you are up to date with repayments on the overdraft and loan then there should be no issue paying the cheque in, unless there is a reason why the bank are likely to recall the overdraft (eg if you have been going over limit etc).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Thanks for your replys. So Lloyds and Halifax are the same? Even if I don't own anything to Lloyds ,but own to Halifax and will bring check to Lloyds. will they be able to keep my money? I don't use Halifax and my current account is closed. And I am paying what i can afford: 10/week to account and 10/week to loan. Basically can Halifax bank arrest my money in Lloyds?0

Check?
Don't you mean cheque?
Check is the American English spelling and if I'm not mistaken, the forum is British not American.
I hate to be pedantic but the creeping "Americanisation" of written and spoken English is very annoying :mad:DFW'er - Lightbulb moment : 31st July 2009 - £18,499
28th October 2019 - £13,505 - 27% paid off.
