Milli's new year

2007 is gonna be my year! :j
Resolutions:
1. I will not stuff the mail onto a shelf to get buried so I can pretend I don't owe the money. I will open each bill as it comes in.
2. I will not look at my bank account and wonder where all those £20 cash withdrawals were spent. I will log my spending daily in my budgeting program.
3. I will not have Tesco deliver a large grocery order and then find I already had three unopened boxes of frozen fish fillets that are still good. I will look at my cupboards and plan my meals before I buy groceries.
4. I will not keep living month to month and panicking when something unexpected happens. I will save a one month buffer and live on last month's paycheck.
5. I will not let irregular but expected bills like car insurance or Christmas take me by surprise. I will put aside money for them throughout the year.
6. I will not beat myself up if I have a setback. I will pick myself up, forgive myself, and keep going.
7. I will not let the short term goal of getting out of debt stop me from reaching my long term educational and career development goals. I will work overtime when I can, but not if I need to study.

Debt free date now [strike]Nov 2020[/strike] [strike]Oct 2017[/strike] [STRIKE]Aug 2016[/STRIKE] May 2011 at present rate0 -
I'm going to use this as my debt-free diary. I posted a SOA last spring, but things have gotten a lot better since then, mostly because of a pay rise. I've cut back a lot of bills, but the biggest thing I could do now to cut expenses would be to get control of the food budget. I'm current on everything except my council tax, but should have that up to date soon.
My main goal for 2007 is to get a one month buffer. I know there are various schools of thought on whether to work on debts or savings first, but DH and I have decided that a savings buffer of one month's salary should come first. Then pay off debts. Then start saving for a house.
Debt is approx £5000. I haven't added it up in a while, but it's on the list. Just not as high on the list as some of the other tedious household things that no one likes to do.Hi, I'm Mich

Bah. So much for getting organized. Too sick to go to work and I spent most of the day asleep and fuzzy headed. I did manage to make a pot of soup in the slow cooker, but cleaning up the kitchen afterwards is too much to ask. I got two parcels from my mother in the US that should have arrived before Christmas, but they were very welcome today when I was feeling so miserable. Of course her sending it wasn't very money saving, as she paid more for postage than for the stuff in the parcels, but I can't stop her. Every year I give my US family an Amazon UK shopping list so they can get out of paying international postage, but my mom can't resist picking up little stocking stuffer type items to send.
I've been sick since the 28th, with two periods where I felt like I was getting better. Now I feel worse than I did this morning.
I hope my immune system starts kicking butt soon, because, dammit, 2007 is gonna be my year! Hi, I'm Mich

Yesterday I finally got paid for an ebay auction that I was about to report as a non paying bidder. Yippee! This money was earmarked for personal care spending for me and DH, so he got a new shirt and I got some hair care products.
Weeeeell... I overspent just a bit. I went £4.11 over the paypal balance when shopping for myself. Plus I spent the money that was meant to be for postage. So it had better go on the spending list:
So Wednesday's spending:
£10.38 hair stuff (not budgeted for)
£0.49 throat lozengesHi, I'm Mich
