Can anyone recommend where to get a good (yet cool!) school bag for my daughter starting grammar school in september? Have just ordered a RipCurl one from Surfdome but it's a bit on the small side

You don't want a big bag, (its not cool, lockers hold big things)....get a small blue canvass one and let her bleach it and frill the ends......now that's cool, I used to have one
.....grange hill days

I got my DS got a Trespass ruck sack and Waterproof Coat from Trespass (surprisingly enough
) Half price sale on in Coleraine at the time, coat and bag for £25:T Headmaster of grammar has recommended 2 strap shoulder bags due to quantity of text books, this one seems to be sturdy enough to withstand abuse and pass the fashion meter of an 11 going on 18 year old:rotfl:
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:0 -
as for the canvass ones, (it's the army style you want) you can get them in any camping store for a few quid and they do last for ages.
...she can draw all over them and make it her own. I've still got mine since 2nd year, wouldn't throw it away for a million bucks

why not just let her pick her own?
can mum/dad ever pick anything thats cool????0 -
Going to grammar school isn't very cool either... any bag will do. Offer her a Tesco Bag for Life, it's only 10p outlay and she will be guaranteed that nobody else will have one the same, ever.0

I told my dd to take her old school bag - a fabric cheap asda george bag for the first week, then she could look at everyone elses and see what she wanted. She did this and then choose a very large handbag style bag from TKMaxx. This meant i didn't get any problems with spending money on a bag she didn't like or changed her mind over after the first few days. The bag she chose was rather expensive (patent leather) but I hope will last her through all of lower years of high school.
Another consideration is how is she getting to and from school? My dd takes the bus so doesn't ever have to carry the bag too far but if walking a long way I would have considered a different style bag.0 -
Definately TKMaxx, so I am told by my trendy teenagers, son has to have only black at his school so usually there is a good range of black there, but all different if you know what I mean. Our daughter was allowed brighter colours and although she did find some there she prefered to pay the horrendous prices of shops like Animal and Ripcurl in Belfast (or online). Good idea to see what others have first as she'd hate to have the wrong bag!0

JD sports, M&M direct online, JJB or any sports shop does them. You could also check the latest Argos catalogue. My 14yo lad ordered his Adidas bag through M&M direct for £20, it's £40 in JD sports.0

My daughters and most of their friends use Roxy rucksacks. They can hold an A4 folder and are very strong, with good straps that spread the weight well across their back. I've found the cheapest place to buy them is ebay or some of the surfing websites.0
