Wine preserver/saver?

There have been occasions (rare) when we have not finished off the entire wine in the bottle. Rather than throwing the leftover wine, usually I tend to use the cork to close bottle so that it can be used up later.
Obviously the wine never tastes the same when the bottle is opened again later (usually 1-2 days). Does anyone has any experience in using wine preserver or saver etc?
I have seen few items on ebay (e.g. item: 270764935064), amazon etc but not sure if these things work and do actually preserve the wine. Has anyone used such products, are they worth spending money on?

I've tried a few different types over the years but the only one I use regularly is my Vacu-Vin (similar to the ebay auction you refer to). I find it keeps the wine fine. John Lewis at one time sold a can containing some kind of gas which expelled oxygen from the open bottle. That worked too but was quite expensive. However, I've since read that the only way to keep wine tasting exactly the same is to have a totally sealed system whereby oxygen is not introduced into the bottle in the first place and they cost hundreds of £s.0

I second freezing it - it will never taste the same. So freeze it in ice cube trays, dump into freezer bags (well labelled) once frozen and use in anything you cook that needs wine.
You can defrost first or drop them into the slow cooker etc for stews.0 -
I've used VacuVin http://www.amazon.co.uk/Vacuvin-Vacuum-Saver-Giftpack-Stoppers/dp/B0000AQVO2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1313732617&sr=8-1 for many years.
It keeps wine palatable up to 3 days after opening. Maybe longer but I've always finished the bottle by the 3rd day.0 -
We use vacuvin too, it keeps it for at least a week though it normally has started to turn when we use it after a fortnight (different meats = different wine!!).What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Never really thought of freezing! I was going to ask how to freeze it but CommitedToChange gave some really good idea.0 -

Cheers, thanks for the recommendation. Yes, I think we would have finished the bottle in 3 days so anything that keeps wine for 3 days will be fine by me.
I'm leaning more towards the Vacuvin model on Amazon.
If anyone can share some casserole recipies for using up the frozen wine will be good!0 -
Use a cork and drink it the next day - works fine for us0

The best and cheapest way to refreshen opened wine is to pour it into a jug or decanter before you drink it. Pour it from a height, say 6 inches, and this will oxygenate it and bring out the flavours again.0
