opps... when flylady turns on you...

my finance /filing drawer was becoming a bit cluttered (couldnt fit any more in) so i decided to sit here and file and sort it... postive things ~ found more savings (in different account) will just leave it there though... its not much and i found my isa paying in book :T no more putting it in my current account and transfering it over...

but... (this is where i need help) am i back in debt :o i found an opened letter from hm revenue and customs... basically it says i havent be credited with enough national insurance stuff in 2004~2005... it says it needs 4 week a total of £28.60... but it does say its not a demand and i have untill 2011 to pay.... but i am 75% certain it may be when i was on jobseekers or when i was at college (stopped employment to move to college ~ moved back and resumed employment in under 2 months) now the letter has a paying in slip and i can pay it on the 15th (when i get payed) but is it important... will they demand the money nearer 2011? is it a prority? what do i do  i guess this will also affect my pension in years to come... anyone shed any light to a newbie to stuff like this (i usually just accept what they take from my pay :o)

thanks :grinheart

i would guess that its telling you that you didnot pay enough NI for that year to count for the purpose of your state pension.... so if you want, you can make up the money (and you have until 2011 to pay) but you dont have to pay anything if you dont want to.

given that the rules for the state pension are in flux i would suggest you do nothing yet unless you will be retiring before 2011.

ohh a simple version... thanks clapton... nah i have (as the pension age stands) 44 years to go :o i have a private employers pension thingy so i will keep hold of this letter and see what happens :) thanks :A
  • I think the rules have just changed so that women only have to have 30 qualifying years in order to get their pension so you might not need that year.

Someone who know will be along soon.

    Hi pap
When you are on jobseekers you are credited with national insurance credits towards your pension, so it is probably from the time when you were a student. You don't have to pay anything if you don't want to it is up to you.
Insurance credits will affect your pension but usually before pension date you will be sent a letter and statement of credits and invited to make up any shortfall in payments before your pension date.
Personally i dont have much faith in there even being a state pension as such by the time I retire so I wouldn't sweat about it:rolleyes:

  • My Dh recieved one of those letters too.. but he was employed at the time and his boss has said that quite a few people have recieved these in error and you just need to call them and confirm whether it's a mistake or not as obviously if you're employed your employer sorts all your NI contributions out.
Being typically male though DH hasn't been bothered to call them  ... men.. lol.
