Look at your debt and divide it into a series of goals then work out how long it will take to reach the first goal.
After next months payment my debts will be under £16,000Next goal is to have paid off £4,000 & so on.
Good luck and remember there is a light at the end of the DMP tunnel.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0 -
It's really surprising how quickly those balances will come down, assuming your creditors aren't charging vast amounts of interest. And now that you aren't paying a DMP management fee it will come down even sooner.
As Mrs A says in her post (above), working out some goals will help - you can even plot them on a graph, like a weight loss graph if a visual reminder will help. I tend to go by the thousands - I remember going below £20,000 which although still a HUGE amount of debt, just getting into the 'teens' was a great feeling and a reminder of how far I've come.
The other thing that might help is remembering all the anxiety and sleepless nights (assuming you had these before your DMP). Before I went on a DMP I was constantly moving money from one account to another to get the best rate, worrying how close I was to my limit, going without prescriptions because I didn't have £7 to pay for them etc etc. The thought of a DMP was scary but once it was arranged and I finally had some money to live on, plus debts stopped spiralling out of control, I felt much better.
Finally just to point out there is the DMP Mutual Support Thread where you will always find a friendly ear for your DMP woes - we're all in similar boats over there! Also the Long Haul Support thread if your DMP is going to stick around for some time.LBM - March 2009, DMP Start - April 2009
