and wanted to give myself a pat on the back.
I love all things harry potter, the books the movies, the lot.
I saw a post on the grabbit boards about Tesco.com's box set of the 4 harry potter movies for just £9.97. I have all but the last on already, but to buy no 4 on it's own will cost more than £9.97 so I was very tempted to take up the offer.
I went to the site, added it to my basket and was halfway through the payment process when I stopped and thought, ok I want it but do I really need it? In the past I wouldn't have even stopped to think about spending such a small amount of money on something I wanted.
Maybe there is hope for me yet!

well done looby... that must have been a real milestone for you :T with regards to the spending diary... i brought one of those page to view diarys in a £1 shop (£5 in wh smith) as soon as i post on moozie's thread i then write in my book (usually late at night) a break down on the day page and then in the front there is a day diary type thing with a box for each date in each month i have been filling that in with the total of each day... at the end of the month i will total it all up and see how much i spent that month and how much i saved (with regards to my challenge ~ see sig) this and moozie seems to stop me spending...0

Well done, looby75. My Achilles' heel used to be DVDs -goodness knows how much I used to spend on them! They were so easy to buy - just one or two clicks and 3 days later I was watching it. Great! I figured they were a cheap night in, which they were of course, only I didn't really need them and a few years later they were on TV anyway. I still buy them every now and again, but only if less than £5 each, special editions and a real bargain like this one:
http://www.hmv.co.uk/hmvweb/displayProductDetails.do?ctx=285;5;-1;-1&sku=970712
(hey, all things in moderation, you have to treat yourself sometimes
).
I had to stop myself on the same Harry Potter boxset too. I sympathize - it's a real bargain so well done for stopping yourself!
Besides, these are the single disc vanilla versions. You'd be better off holding out for the 7 film, special edition, feature packed, collectors boxset which they'll undoubtedly release when the franchise has concluded (just as they did with the beautiful LOTR package). Now THAT will be worth having!!
When it's in the sales. :cool:0 -
I've set my dd on a mission to the pound shop in town after school tomorrow to buy me a big diary
Good tip about leaving it by the computer.
I told my MIL how good I was not buying the dvd's and she offered me the money to buy them, bless her, it's my birthday at the end of the month and she said I could have them as part of my bday present. I told her thanks but no thanks and suggested she got me gift vouchers for evans so I can treat myself to some new clothes instead. A bit more practical and will save me spending my own money on clothes.
I just keep telling myself that the more I save, the more I can pay off my debts and when the super duper deluxe full box set comes out in 5 years time I will be able to treat myself to that (thanks dudleyboy

well done chuck.
have to say i'm not such a fan of the movies. think i just have the first two, maybe three??? it's the books i love. i have all six in hardback and the first five in paperback...it was pre-dfw but chances are i'll finish the collection in each :rolleyes:0 -
I love the first 2 because they were partly filmed at Durham Catherdal (close to where I live) and dd and I love to play spot which part of hogwarts is durham cathedral lol
the last 2 weren't the same because they were filmed elsewhere, and I presonally don't think they do as good a job at putting the books on the big screen. Prizoner of Askaban is my fave book, and I was very very disapointed with the film version.
OK I'll stop talking like a total geek now lol0
