    Some of the larger shopping centres have number plate recognition on the entrances to their car parks. If they also have your mobile number, as you drive up to them they will send you a "welcome" text and maybe details of special offers.

    (Also means they can fine you for any parking infringements without having to pay the fee to get your details from DVLA!!)
