Black Horse Finance - Getting out of agreement?

Evening,

Currently have an agreement with BH that has been in place since the beginning of September, does anyone have any dealings with them?

I wish to terminate the agreement / give the car back, however I had a scratch on the side of the car when i scraped it against the gate (not a massive job) and a small dent in the bumper and a cracked rear light (I think I will have to pay for this as it is excessive wear and tear.)

Does anyone have experience with them? I believe I can take it back to my dealers' after this months' payment because I have made 3 payments on it.

Anyone's experience would be appreciated, I struggle to pay it now because of my recent job issues / health problems and need to get back on my feet financially, because I'm on reduced hours (contracted 3 days in my new job, with the option of overtime but I dont want to do too much too soon.) I want to start paying off other debts, not be working for nothing other than paying for a car I can't afford.

Thank you!

  • I'm not a 100% on this but you may have to wait till you've paid half of what you owe back?

    Can anyone confirm?

I think OP may be right and you can only return the car after half of it has been paid and even then it has to be in reasonable condition.

Check the terms and conditions of your finance as I'm fairly sure you'll have needed to pay at least half before you can surrender it.

Black Horse do alow you at least 1 month off- and you can postpone it to the last payment- this doesn't affect credit rating. In my dealings with them it's standard per agreement and you have to have paid 1/2 to let them reposess the car.
  • That's what I thought, but I was informed by the salesman that once I had paid 3 payments back on the car I could take it back as these payments covered the interest or something.

I'll give them a ring, you are correct about what it says on the agreement regarding pay half providing that the goods are in reasonable condition, which they are bar those two bumps.

Can you prove what the salesman told you?

I don' think that will help really as they can hold you to the agreement you signed but it might be worth telling them you were told something different.

Verbal contracts are still legally binding - the difficulty is proving them. On the other hand can BH prove it wasnt made
No Longer works for MBNA as of August 2010 - redundancy money will be nice though.

  • Would be able to prove it, as he said to ring them back if there was a problem as he actually dealt me out of the first car that I had which was a corsa.

Maybe I just need to negotiate lower payments for a set amount of time, It won't actually affect anything really, it will take 5 years to pay the HP off fully.

This is what i mean by LBM and realising that debt doesnt pay, signing agreements when times are good, not thinking.

This experience will help me in life,

Thank you. I wa sin the process of buying a used car as I am having minor problems with my wee stinky car. but it is a car and I do not need more debt.

    Thank you you've inspired me.

  • Hiya, i have my car with black horse, i rang them in a similar situation, i had to have paid off 1/3 before exchange, not sure about returning though.
Also Im now doing reduced payments with them, is a 3 month arrangement, Ive had 2 defaults in that time and about £200 in charges.

These are nasty people, pretend theyre helping you when really theyre not. Try everything you can to get them off your back.
