New year - time to revamp your food

For example, we like garam masala in mashed potato, and today I had HM cranberry sauce on my cheese on toast, under the cheese. Delicious!

Any other little tweaks we can use to perk up standard OS classics?

I sprinkle curry or chilli powder into baked beans for baked beans on toast.

Going to have a think what else I do, concoctions are my specialty but are the norm to me, whereas other people find them "different"!

I always make my veggie bolognese sauce with Passatta rather than tinned toms. Much nicer flavour and no nasty tomato bits lol

I stick tomato sauce with chilli and garlic on under cheese when making cheese on toast. Nice kick to it. At school in home economic's we were taught this arbeit normal tomato sauce as a "mock pizza". can also stick bits of pineapple and ham on it to make a haiwan if you wanted.

I'm into smoked paprika at the moment, add it to everything; cheese sauce (thanks Squeaky), tomato sauces, bean stews, baked beans, soups- lovely stuff ;)

dried rosemary on all my roast potatos and brown sauce in beans tastes just like Kentucky beans!

I have been using a few recipes from OS board but thnk we need a few threads to come up with few more recipe's. Some very old ones on there and we must have a lot more members on here now! I will think some up!

I'm a bit of a chilli head - I do find a little bit of Dave's Insanity Sauce turns even the most bland of meals into something else :)

however in true old style fashion , I'm looking at growing lots of chilli's and making my own sauce this year :)
  • Mixed herbs and rosemary chucked into baked beans is lush for a change (although baked beans are lush anyway :) ). Definitely going to try the garam masala in mash, sounds fab! Oh, mixed herbs in scrambled eggs too... in fact I'll chuck them in almost anything :D

I tend to add a drop of tobasco into scrambled egg - not a chilli thing , but a trick I picked up from my mum - think of the other traditional 'hot' breakfast foods, Kedjeree had chilli in it as well as Devilled Kidneys so its not as bizarre as it might seem ! )

Instead of toad in the hole with plain sausages I like pigs in blankets in the hole if that makes any sense - the sausage and bacon rolls instead of plain sausage :)
