But, it's a moneymaking opportunity!
Does anyone know what Provident are like to work for? Looking into any work I can do in the evening and being an agent seems a good idea, despite the dirty feeling!

Debt collector's and working for Provident is not quite the same thing!
Provident provide a service which some people seem to think that they need - at a huge rate of interest.
In all fairness my conscience wouldn't allow me to get other folks into debt in this way.

Sandralovescats.....That's what's putting doubt into my head, if I see a young family with kids, struggling with a huge Prov loan, I'd feel so guilty.Debt free in 2010

Don't do it. I worked for GE Capital selling PPI for a week and had to leave. I was unaware of the amount of debt people were in until that week and we were told to effectively lie to get them to sign up to the 1p in the pound. I felt awful every night. My sales were shocking - my heart definitely wasn't in it and I felt this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.0

I worked for provident and the money was quite good considering I could fit it around the family but......
I left when I found out how some 'discrepancies' allready on the books were to be delt with. (No, neither I nor the previous agent were being made to pay)
If you do decide to go ahead INSIST that all the books are fully balanced/tallied BEFORE you take over and double check for yourself.
For anyone who is a client NEVER pay if you haven't got your book or get a receipt (LOOK AFTER THIS), ALWAYS insist on entries for payment and check them and never hand over your book unless you've an up-to- date photocopy of EVERY page with an entry.
Mistakes in the agents books are easily made, and your book is your only proof

I currently work for Provident.
I am in a huge amount of debt and needed to find work to fit around things.
My dad is an agent too.
What really annoys me is when people are nasty about the job I do.
If there wasn't a market for it, there would be no Provident.
I am not a debt collector. Yes, I collect money weekly from my customers but it is in no way forced. The customer agrees to the weekly call. If for some reason they can't pay for a week or two, they don't.
I lose money if my customers don't pay but I would never force money out of them - unlike some.
Also with regards to the interest - Yes, it is a very high interest rate. Common knowledge. But the customers know exactly what they are getting into. That interest rate does not change. If they don't make payments for weeks on end, they don't get charged. It is cash, convenience and no late repayment fees that make the rate high, amongst other things.
Some of my customers are pretty poor, monetary wise, but they thank companies like provident who provide this service. They know that if all goes wrong and they can't pay for a while, there are no charges added on. They won't be charged left right and centre....unlike other companies.
There is no hard sell. At all. Whatsoever. All of my leads have come from people calling the office. None have been sold to.
Provident don't allow people to have "huge loans" either. Everything is based on what the customer can afford.
I'm not saying Provident are a fantastic company or any such thing but I do think they are sometimes misjudged by people.
I'm sorry to rant about this but I take offence when people think I'm some sort of traitor or low life because I'm trying all I can to keep my head above water.
It's not an ideal job but it's not the worst I can think of either.0
