Company calling pretending to have be a delivery company.

Wonder if anyone has encountered this?
History of messy divorce, old debts etc from over 6 years ago.
I worked out of the country for a while and had a friend take my UK mail in for me. When I returned there were some demands etc, but I ignored most of them and heard no more.
Today my friend telephoned me to say she had received a telephone call from someone purporting to from a delivery company and asking if I was in. She said I didn't live there, and was asked had I ever lived there! To which she said 'No'.
Am concerned that they:
1. Found her details (we're not related, nor is she in the telephone book)
2. That they alleged they were a delivery company. I obviously haven't ordered anything to her address.
Am hoping this is a one off for her, and she has no mail at her house for me, but can they do this, is it a collections agency? I came to that conclusion having 'googled' the issue.
Advice would be appreciated.

Have you ever filled any forms in with your friends phone number on with your name associated?
Re-direction forms for post etc? Insurance companies etc
They've obviously looked the details up from somewhere to get that link between you and your friend.
They may only have a phone number and your name, most probably from a public source. They said they were a delivery company but that doesn't mean they have an address. Did they confirm they knew your friends address while on the phone?0 -
I've cards come through the pletterbox from dca's that are made to look like a post office or parcel force kind of form where they say they tried to deliver something, please call this number.........
Quite a shady trick imo0 -
Roxburghe (see other threads) used to do this. Likely to be a dodgy debt collector chancing their arm.Can I help?0
