Company calling pretending to have be a delivery company.

Wonder if anyone has encountered this?

History of messy divorce, old debts etc from over 6 years ago.

I worked out of the country for a while and had a friend take my UK mail in for me. When I returned there were some demands etc, but I ignored most of them and heard no more.

Today my friend telephoned me to say she had received a telephone call from someone purporting to from a delivery company and asking if I was in. She said I didn't live there, and was asked had I ever lived there! To which she said 'No'.

Am concerned that they:

1. Found her details (we're not related, nor is she in the telephone book)
2. That they alleged they were a delivery company. I obviously haven't ordered anything to her address.

Am hoping this is a one off for her, and she has no mail at her house for me, but can they do this, is it a collections agency? I came to that conclusion having 'googled' the issue.

Advice would be appreciated.

  • Have you ever filled any forms in with your friends phone number on with your name associated?

Re-direction forms for post etc? Insurance companies etc

They've obviously looked the details up from somewhere to get that link between you and your friend.

They may only have a phone number and your name, most probably from a public source. They said they were a delivery company but that doesn't mean they have an address. Did they confirm they knew your friends address while on the phone?

Roxburghe (see other threads) used to do this. Likely to be a dodgy debt collector chancing their arm.
    Can I help?
