Maturing Endowments

HI, I have Mortgage Endowments that are beginning to mature, of which two come out in Feb 2007. Unfortunately they will not be paying out what we were led to believe they would, but we have tried to claim compensation but failed because the broker we used initially, wrote down one thing and told us totally different; we were naive enough in the early days when endowments first came out (80s) to trust our brokers word and didn't read the small print.
Anyhow, as I said the endowments are now maturing and we are not sure what we should do with them. We tried asking at the building society we have the mortgage through, A&L and were told we could send them a copy of the letter showing proof the policy has matured along with the cheque.
What we wondered was is this the best thing to do given our current mortgage deal doesn't end until 31/5/2008 or would it be better to put them into an account somewhere to gain interest. If it is better to put them into an account until our mortgage deal ends next year can anyone recommend where we should put them to gain the best interest.
Cheers
Sue
