Capquest, seeking some advice

Hi everyone
Hoping someone here may be able to offer some advice...
I purchased a laptop on finance some years ago (jan 2008) from curries, with hfc bank.., long story short I lost my job and could no longer afford to make payments so I cancelled my direct debit. I know I shouldnt of done this really, but I did and so.
I never heard anything from HFC or anyway until about a year later when I got a letter from capquest demanding money from me. I arranged a payment plan of £25 a month with them, which I stuck to. One day they posted through a lett er offering me a £400 settlement.
I agreed to this, and when I called to make the payment of £400, I was told that they could not accept my money as the debt had been taken back by HFC and they no longer owned it.
I did not hear anything from then after this, and since moved house.
A few weeks ago, I got a letter through stating that I owe £580, and I need to contact them to pay or they will take legal action blah blah.
I sent a letter through saying I want a copy of my signed credit agreement and will only deal with them in writing. A few days later I received a letter back, along with my £1, stating that 'their client' will only comply with my request if I sign my name. I had printed my name on the letter, as I had read elsewhere not to sign your name on letters to cap quest as they are known to be a dodgy/underhanded company.
So wanting advice on two things really 1, the fact I offered them £400 and they are now asking for £580 (this was stupidly done over the phone. looking back I know it should of all been in writing), and 2, would you sign and resend my letter to them?
Thanks in advance, I am pretty clueless in this department!

I would not sign it no!
I would write back to them, offering them a monthly payment of what you can afford. As you do owe the debt.0 -

Thanks. I am not against paying the money, more so against cap quest. And I want to see a full breakdown of any interest applied, as I previously offered to pay the debt in full. I also requested to see this in my previous letter.0

They're not called 'crap quest' for nothing.....I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.0

write to them asking if they have absolute or equitable rights over the debt.
If they have equitable rights then deal with HFC as they are only acting on their behalf.
If they have absolute rights then it is they who must provide the CCA.
Don't sign the letter and send it signed for.0
