New beginnings...Down but not out!

  • I thought I’d just pop in and give a brief update on my diary.

NSD number one achieved today :D I did have to write a cheque out for the school but it is part of the budget for the month, so I don’t need to count it.

I went back to work today, it was okay but for a huge big spider that scared the heck out of me, it was hiding in my colleagues sink. It was nice and quiet today though as the Reception children haven’t started yet.

I haven’t done any housework apart from washing up and one load of washing…I really need to get a grip on it again and get sorted. I think once I know what is happening with the school I am volunteering at, I’ll be able to work housework in with everything else.

DH spoke to the lady that does the expenses and she said they should be paid within the next couple of days, not bad but he gets paid next week and has another lot to go in…still at least we are getting them.

That’s all folks lol back tomorrow, off to bath the (not so) little one.
  • I agree about the food shop and it can be quite lucrative also eg i ordered £6 worth of sirloin and they only had £12 packs and i paid £6!!!!! result!!
  • Morning diary and lurkers and posters :D

Had a fairly good sleep last night, so feeling quite good so far; my mind is still reeling with ideas to move this debt.

I am ready for the end of the year and I am prepared for next year, I am applying for a Post Office Budget Card today and I am going to try and put £5 a month on it to begin with and hopefully increase it, this will go towards car taxes and gas/electricity bill next year.

As much as I would like to, I am not going to be able to top up my Tesco card for Christmas but this will be on my list for next year, we have £124 in points saved so far so we won’t exactly starve at Christmas time.

I am also going to carry on with saving change and £2 coins this will probably be used during the year but I am aiming to keep it to a minimum and use some for Christmas next year…probably use what has been saved to top up the budget card.

Right off to get motivated, back later.
  • Back again with an update before I go to work, kids are safely in school after a rather nice but slightly cold walk.

Budget card has been got from the post office and I have put £5 on it to start it off.

I went to Tesco's and got some bits we needed and have even managed to put three £2 coins away.

Post man has nicely delivered DH's expenses remittance this morning, so they should be in the bank by tomorrow.

When I finish work I need to get the washing up done and then go and get the kids from school, when we get home I need to sort dinner out for tonight.

Great ideas. I like saving the small change stuff too - have one of those oversize Whsky bottles that I chuck all the coppers I find or have in purse at end of week. Have resisted the urge to tip it out an count - will only do this when it has reached the top! Also managed to save almost £70 in 20ps without even noticing - came very handy whilst on holiday:)

  • Hi Igamogam – I don’t think I could have resisted that long; I have a demi-john that I have been trying to fill for years but always end up using the change in it. One day I might be able to save the change that is in it.

So it’s Saturday today, DH is working at the flying club today, there is a family fun day on at the airfield and there are a few air displays going on so in between those and four flights booked in I think DH is going to be a bit bored today.

I didn’t get chance to update my diary yesterday, I had an appointment with the local special needs school with regard to volunteering. I am pleased to say that they literally bit my hand off :j and talking to the Head, the teacher I am going to be working with is a good teacher and will support me when it comes to my assignments for my TA course; so from Monday I will be working with Yr3 children three mornings a week. DH did ask if I had thought about what I was doing as children with special needs need a lot of help and can be emotionally draining, he wasn’t being horrible, he just wanted to make sure that I know what I am doing…perhaps it’s the mothering instinct in me but I want to help kids like this and okay it’s going to take some learning on my part but I have never been so sure of something.

So I need to plan out my week and routine so that I am prepared. I will be volunteering at the school two hours in the morning from Monday to Wednesday as well as working at the other school in the kitchen (that’s the one that pays :D) which leaves me with Thursday and Friday mornings to do housework, study maths and visit my friend and his wife. I know I have the weekends too but we are generally busy so need to get into some sort of order. DH has said that I don’t need to worry about the housework but I do worry, I see it as my domain and I like most things to be up to date even if the rest isn’t.

It does mean that I will be using the car a lot more too but have warned the kids that we will still be walking back from school on the days that I am working at the other school.

Anyway on to today, the kids and I are meeting a friend of mine at the local pub, we haven’t had a proper catch up for months so definitely in need of some girlie chat.

I need to get the washing up done and a whole host of other chores to be done, I am going to see how much I can get done over the next two hours as that will determine how much I can realistically get done on the days I am not working in a morning.

Right on that note I’d better get organised, need a shower and will start on the upstairs first.

    Morning hon,

Well done for progressing with your maths so well.

I bet you'll love the volunteering & having 2 mornings a week will probably help you to get more focused & organised. I'm far better with less time to do stuff.

Just make sure that you are getting plenty of rest & relaxing time as well as the right foods, *speaks from experience* so you have the reserves to cope with busy days.

Hope you have a fun weekend :)
    xx

It sits behind a load of boxes/book/general carp in corner of office with only top visible - just enough to take top off and drop coins in - too much effort to get it out :rotfl:

My OH is a flyer but not fixed wing. Takes up too much of his time IMO :(

Additional needs is my bag too. I work with those kids nobody else wants to:( Ours are aged 4-7 yrs. Definately emotionally draining - this week has been a long one - bruises to prove it:eek:
    But I love my job:)

  • Morning everyone,

Gosh I’ve not been able to post until now and even then I wasn’t sure I’d be able to post.

Brief update, started volunteering at the local aided school last week, I am working with one of the Yr 3 classes and having immense fun; I have been placed with a class that has a mix of behavioural and mental difficulties. I hate to leave the class to go to my other job but I have to do the paid one (for now).

Not much to report on the money side of things, haven’t been able to make any headway in reducing the debt as we’ve had to add to the credit card, I need to do a count up of the total of the debt so that I know where we are with it.

DH is working at the flying club again this weekend, so that’s a bit more tach time for him.

I have nearly finished my Maths course; I need to do some revision in preparation for my exam….four weeks and counting and then it’s on to Level 2.

Off to get sorted; got to leave in half an hour, have a good day everyone.
