Slight rant about Sainsburys Chocolate Spread

Hubbys favourite. Lets face it he doesnt drive or smoke so if he want chocolate spread on his toast in the morning then who am I to interfere.

In the last year the own brand sainsburys choc spread has gone up from £1 a jar to £1.25. Its the recession I pointed out to hubby and he is now only having two slices of chocolate toast in the morning followed by two jam or marmalade.

Went shopping last night and they have repackaged the chocolate spread range and introduced new flavours. The price has also gone up to £1.69p a jar.

Thats an increase of nearly 70% in the last year.

pretty rubbish really. Anyhow its on an 'new product' offer of £1.15 a jar so currently stocking up.

Anyone else seen any rubbish price increases in the last few weeks?? (I know its asking a silly question...)

Also can anyone recommend a good cheap form of marmite?

These a fair few threads already on this subject. I dont think there is a good cheap form of marmite, do you mean an equivalent ?

Save 33% was £1.89 now £1.26

I also hate marmite (but thats love for you, buying it for the hubby).

Hello, have you thought about making your own chocolate spread, I've had a Google and found lots of recipes. You could use the value chocolate to do it

mmm - thanks for that. Unfortunately it will be another thing for me to do having a completely hopless hubby. The only thing he can cook is toast! Am already economising by making his lunchtime muffins and sausage rolls.

def worth a try though.

Aldi do a chocolate spread - you get a big jar for 99p and it's lovely! I don't buy it often as it is just too easy to eat it and I am trying to lose weight!

I currently have vast amounts of Carrefour chocolate & hazelnut spread & Cora white chocolate, chocolate & hazelnut, & praline spreads all of which were 40p a jar from approved food & are much better than the majority of the UK brands.
The Cora white chocolate spread is currently available from rosspa (packed under the Match brand name), they did have the chocolate hazelnut one as well but it appears to of sold out.

It is worth keeping an eye out on the discount retailers as they regularly seem to stock the European brands of chocolate spread which are frequently better than the UK brands.
Making your own is very simple but it doesn't keep that long so it's best to make it in small batches.
