I planted laurel along the back of my garden about 2 years ago and they are thriving. I bought them well established and about 4 feet high and they cost me about £10 each, prob a bit expensive but i needed them for screening and they were worth it. They are about 2 metres now and easy to keep neat. I must say I have never noticed bees or wasps. I also planted some bare root beech hedging at the same time and it's only beginning to fill out now and I lost about 1 in 5 (which is always the risk with bare root). I also planted a sweep of escalonia which were hit really hard by the snow. I got the laurel at a local garden centre and the beech whips of the Internet (they were really cheap). The web site was 3 fat pigs ( google it), they are based somewhere on the Ards peninsula.

I have actually come across 3 fat pigs, well the website anyway. The website seems very good and offers quite a lot. Would you recommend their service?
How do you find the maintenance of the Laurel, any issues with trimming as someone has mentioned cut leaves etc?

    Hi there LocalLad

I have had no problems with 3 Fat Pigs at all and have used them a few times - they deliver when they say they are going to and the guy who runs it is very good for sounding out for advice.

As for the Laurel hedge, I have found it to be very easy to maintain. I trim along the top with a sharp pair of secateurs to keep it level. You can easily face the Laurel as well.

Dig them in with plenty of compost and i have found a regular feed with Miracle Gro works a treat.
